US-Vietnam Academic Partnerships

This section contains a partial listing of current and active academic partnerships between Vietnamese and regionally accredited US institutions of higher education. The categories indicate the primary focus of the partnership. Many have additional components. We will continue adding to this list. We also plan to add a section devoted to proposed partnerships, which will serve as an informal matchmaking service.

In-Country Degree Programs - Carried out entirely in Vietnam.

Articulation Degree Programs - Carried out in Vietnam and the US.

Non-Degree Programs - Certificate programs; other forms of training and cooperation (e.g., research).

Curriculum Transfer - Ministry of Education and Training-funded projects designed to import, adapt and implement curricula in targeted fields of study.

In-Country Degree Programs

Houston Community College and Saigon Institute of Technology	Undergraduate program	The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree is intended primarily for students whose first priority is to acquire skills and knowledge needed for employment in a specific field. Programs offered are Computer Science Technology and Business, Marketing and Management
Oklahoma City University and Hanoi University of Technology	Graduate program	Program announced in December 2007. The program will allow 90 students to study for an Oklahoma City University MBA degree in Vietnam during the first year. Additional students in Vietnam will have the opportunity to study at OCU in Oklahoma City
Southern New Hampshire University and Vietnam National University-Hanoi	Graduate program	MS in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Troy University and the Hanoi University of Technology	Undergraduate and graduate programs	Currently offers the following degree programs: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Master of Business Administration Executive Master of Business Administration
University of Hawaii Shidler College of Business and Vietnam National University, Hanoi School of Business and the VNU International University in HCMC	Executive MBA program. Started in 2001 in Hanoi and 2007 in HCMC.	The first in-country US executive MBA program. Taught by University of Hawaii professors. The two-year, executive format program allows participants to maintain full-time management positions while earning their degree. The UH Executive MBA provides an integrated curriculum that incorporates core business disciplines with cutting-edge business practices including the management of information technologies, entrepreneurship, e-business and Asia-Pacific global business strategy.

Northcentral University	Joint degree program with Hanoi University of Technology	MBA; one-year classroom instruction in Vietnam and one-year distance education
Towson University and University of Danang	2+2 program	Towson’s College of Business and Economics offers an undergraduate business program with students enrolled in a cohort program at the University of Danang in Vietnam. Students in the cohort study for the first and fourth years at the University of Danang and attend classes for their second and third years at Towson University. Since the program was established in fall 2006, four students from the University of Danang are currently enrolled in courses at Towson University.
Texas Tech University and the Institute for International Relations, Hanoi	Joint graduate degree program started in 2007 for Vietnamese students at IIR. The Institute trains all of Vietnam’s future diplomats and is similar to the US State Departments Foreign Service Institute.	The joint degree program will allow qualified Vietnamese students to receive their first year of graduate study in Hanoi followed by a year at Texas Tech. Vietnamese students who successfully complete the program will receive a master of arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on International Relations and American Studies from Texas Tech. The agreement is historic as it is the first joint degree program approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

Non-Degree Programs

Fulbright Economics Teaching Program, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and the University of Economics, HCMC	In-country training; public policy education and research for Vietnam.	FETP is regarded as Vietnam’s leading public policy teaching center, with a range of programs incorporating economics, management, technology, and law. FETP has launched a new Master in Public Policy (MPP) program, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
University of Missouri and Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development	2008 MOU to broaden academic and research collaboration in the area of agricultural biotechnology.	MARD will fund Masters and Doctorate students specializing in areas such as plant science, animal science and forestry. Students will also receive laboratory support from University of Missouri academic advisors. The memorandum provides for faculty and student exchanges between Vietnamese institutions and the University of Missouri, as well as scientific exchanges and workshops on various topics related to biotechnology.

Curriculum Transfer

State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) and Thai Nguyen University of Technology (TNUT)	Curriculum transfer; faculty and student exchange; study abroad	With the assistance of UB’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, TNUT will begin teaching UB’s undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum to its own students in fall 2008 with support from the Ministry of Education and Training program. MoET will provide support to building learning and teaching facilities to the same standards required by UB’s curriculum and to support the exchange of personnel between the two departments. UB will also assist TNUT in its efforts to gain accreditation from the American Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and is interested in creating new study abroad opportunities for its students in Vietnam.
