| IIE Vietnam’s advising
centers are affiliated with the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
These centers offer international students
and scholars access to the information they need to understand the U.S.
educational system. ECA/A/S/A estimates that a majority of the nearly
500,000 international students now studying in the U.S. contacted a U.S.
Government affiliated center for information on U.S. study. The advising
centers explain the process for gaining admission to an American college
or university, usually through regularly scheduled presentations.
Centers provide impartial
and accurate information about the full range of accredited institutions
of higher learning in the United States. They do not serve as agents or
recruiters. Advisers are encouraged to abide by established standards
of ethical practice.
The IIE Vietnam Educational Advising
Centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City provide the following services:
- Information on over 4,000 U.S. universities and
colleges
- FREE student advising:
People interested in obtaining information regarding
the education system in the U.S. and/or studying in the U.S. can telephone,
write, or make an appointment to meet with an advisor in our offices
at advisor@iievn.org or
advisorhcmc@iievn.org
- University catalogues and applications
IIE has several hundreds of catalogs and applications from various
schools throughout the United States, which are available for students
and others to browse through.
- Financial aid information
IIE has information on various forms of financial aid, the methods
to search for it, and on particular scholarships.
- U.S. visa application assistance
IIE has information on the visa process and can speak with students
regarding some of the issues that arise in preparing for a visa interview.
- Videos and computer programs about study in the
USA
The IIE office has a collection of videotapes and computer disks from
universities in the U.S., which provide information on different university
programs.
- Opportunities to meet directly with US university
alumni and recruiters
When possible, IIE tries to make U.S. universities visiting Vietnam
available through students in one of two ways. Often we will ask the
university to spend an afternoon simply talking with students in the
office regarding its programs. Once a year, IIE also organizes a U.S.
university fair in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi where students may
come and gather information from several U.S. universities.
