Introduction

IIE-Vietnam is pleased to announce the first annual EducationUSA Distinguished Alumni Awards competition to honor outstanding Vietnamese graduates of regionally accredited US colleges and universities.

The award will be bestowed upon five (5) US-educated Vietnamese who have made seminal contributions to Vietnamese society and culture, as well as to US-Vietnam relations, and who exemplify IIE’s slogan Opening Minds to the World.  The EducationUSA Distinguished Alumni Awards are intended to recognize and reward talent, dedication, creativity and achievement. In addition, they will highlight the work and lives of people who are role models for those currently studying in the US and others who will follow in their footsteps.

There are thousands of US-educated Vietnamese dating to the late 1980s.  Many of them have made significant and, in some cases, cutting-edge contributions to their profession and Vietnam’s development.  They represent different generations and regions of the country, and work in a variety of sectors, including public, private, and nongovernmental.

In announcing this first ever competition, Dr. Mark Ashwill, IIE-Vietnam director, expressed the hope that it would become an annual event.  He added, “It is a highly visible way not only to honor the ‘best of the best’ among US-educated Vietnamese, but also to tell part of the story about what happens after young Vietnamese return home upon completing an undergraduate or graduate degree, and, in some instances, a short-term post-graduate work experience.”

Nomination Process

Nominations, including self-nominations, will be accepted from May 8 to October 16, 2009. Nominators are asked to complete the nomination forms by clicking on the links below.  Individuals in Vietnam and the U.S., including those working in the public, private and NGO sectors, are strongly encouraged to nominate successful alumni.
